Quiet expertise. Loud reliability.
Carefree Computing was founded on a simple idea: small and mid-sized teams deserve the same caliber of infrastructure care that Fortune 500 IT departments get.
Twenty-nine years of running other people's servers — so they don't have to.
We founded Carefree Computing in 1998 as a two-person Linux consultancy answering after-hours pager calls for a handful of small businesses in Berkeley. Twenty-nine years later, our team has grown to five engineers working across the globe — but the original promise has never changed.
Every engagement begins with a plain-language audit, not a sales deck. Every plan comes with a named engineer. Every emergency call reaches a human who has read your runbook — whether that engineer is in California, Europe, or anywhere in between.
Three commitments that shape every engagement.
01
Plain language
We write proposals, reports, and post-mortems the way we'd want them written for us — short, honest, and free of acronyms wherever possible.
02
One engineer, end to end
You'll know the name of the person responsible for your environment — one of five engineers distributed globally. No ticket roulette, no Tier-1 handoffs, no escalation theater.
03
Test before you trust
Migrations get dress rehearsals. Backups get restore drills. Upgrades get rollback paths. The boring discipline is the whole job.
Talk to the engineer who would run your environment.
Initial consultations are free and direct — no pitch deck, no funnel.
